Genova. Genoa will be the capital of international Judo next weekend. The Fiumara Stadium is in fact ready to host the 34th International Judo Tournament “Genova Città di Colombo”, a historic event organized by the Marassi Judo Sports Center and. The event, included in the “Genoa 2024 European Capital of Sport” schedule, enjoys the patronage of the Liguria Region, the Municipality of Genoa, the national and regional CONI, and takes place under the aegis of the Italian Judo Wrestling Karate Arts Federation Marziali (FIJLKAM) as well as being included in the male and female “Gran Prix Cadetti e Juniores” federal circuit.
There are over 1300 athletes registered for the competition, accompanied by their 300 coaches registered for 240 clubs arriving from all over Italy together with delegations from Azerbaijan, Belgium, France, Great Britain, Poland, Romania, the Principality of Monaco, San Marino, Spain, Switzerland , Turkey and Hungary. A high profile international test, important in view of the European and World Championships in the category. A showcase for many young people who wish to stand out in an international youth context of increasing level year after year. For this reason, the event will be carefully followed by the technicians of the National Judo team and the FIJLKAM president Domenico Falcone.
The program includes the accreditation of clubs and representatives and the weighing of athletes on Friday 17 May. On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May the matches on the six Marassi Judo tatamis set up, directed by the 40 match officials (15 international) selected by FIJLKAM, will begin at 9am and end at 8.30pm.
Marassi Judo fields, as always, a double team: one on the tatami, with its athletes ready to give their best to achieve the best possible placing, and one made up of technicians, managers and families, working for the the setup of the Stadium, with the tatamis and above all the desire to make the trip unforgettable for the many young Italians and internationals ready to reach Genoa for the first time.

Among the most awaited participants in the ranks of Marassi Judo, there is also Rachele Paris. She was first place at the European Cup in Koper (Slovenia), at the 2024 Italian Cadet Championship, at the 2024 Alpe Adria international tournament, bronze at the 2024 European Cup in Follonica and at the 2024 European Cup in Berlin. Currently an athlete of national interest, Rachele has already been called up to the national team and, after the “Genova Città di Colombo” Grand Prix, she will compete in the next European Championships which will be held in Sofia from 27 to 30 June with the possibility, in case of an excellent performance, defend the blue colors at the World Cup in Peru at the end of August.
Marassi Judo carries out activities in the Marassi district and currently collaborates with the Istituto Comprensivo Marassi (Papa Giovanni) with the involvement of 120 middle school students. In collaboration with the Mornese association which deals with Educational Poverty, the company of president Rosario Valastro is also holding lessons with events aimed at Judo & Cyberbullying.

Born in 1988 thanks to the effort and passion of a group of judo-loving friends, the International City of Colombo Tournament directed by Rosario Valastro is an important stage in the life of extraordinary champions, among whom Pino Maddaloni, winner of the Olympics in Sydney 2000.
