García Pimienta will not continue as coach of UD Las Palmas next season

MADRID, 23 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

UD Las Palmas confirmed this Thursday that Francisco Javier García Pimienta will not continue as the team’s coach next season, despite the fact that last October he had signed his renewal until June 30, 2025 and after the yellow team had signed a very poor second round in LaLiga EA Sports.

“UD Las Palmas thanks García Pimienta for his commitment and dedication during his two and a half seasons at the head of the team, while wishing him good luck in his future projects,” the Gran Canaria club said in a statement.

The Catalan coach arrived at UD Las Palmas at the end of January 2022, with the team in the Second Division, to replace Pepe Mel on the bench and managed to qualify them for the promotion playoff, falling in the semifinals with Tenerife . However, he did return to the First Division in his first full campaign and directly by finishing second.

García Pimienta has achieved the objective in this 2023-2024 season of keeping the island team in LaLiga EA Sports, although in a suffered manner and sealed on the penultimate day in part due to a bad 2024 where they have only won three games, the last on 10 February, and has gone 13 without a victory, with eight consecutive defeats.

During his career at UD Las Palmas, the Catalan coach will add, counting this weekend’s last match against Deportivo Alavés, 105 games, with, for now, 41 wins, 33 draws and 30 losses. García Pimienta will surpass Vicente Dauder against the Vitorian team as the ninth coach with the most games coached in the history of the entity.
