Gabriella Willems eliminated in second round at Judo Grand Slam in Dushanbe

Gabriella Willems was eliminated in the second round in the under 70 kilo category at the Judo Grand Slam in Dushanbe on Saturday in Tajikistan.

Willems, 30th in the world, started with an ippon victory in 1:10 against the Tajik Mavluda Odinaeva (IJF 94). She then lost to the Austrian Michaela Polleres, world No.5. The Olympic vice-champion won thanks to a waza-ari.

Willems, 26, made her return to competition after surgery on her right knee ligaments last week at the Euro in Zagreb, where she was eliminated in the second round.

Friday, Mina Liber was beaten in the fight for bronze in -57 kg, Amber Ryheul was eliminated in the 2nd round in -52 kg and Lois Petit lost in the first round in -48 kg. Sami Chouchi (-90 kg) and Toma Nikiforov (-100 kg) will come into action on Sunday.
