Future meets Present: Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark Takes on WNBA Stars in Shocking Loss to New York Liberty

On the sidelines of Game 6 between the Wolves and the Nuggets, a “shock” in the WNBA took place last night. The Indiana Fever against the New York Liberty, the same as with the guys, and especially the meeting between the basketball of tomorrow (Caitlin Clark) and the basketball of today (Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, among others ). Spoiler, the city has beaten the countryside, and the present has outclassed the future.

Caitlin Clark? He’s a bit of a young Stephen Curry with the hype of Victor Wembanyama. Sorry, we’re talking about what we know best. The No. 1 in the 2024 Draft has everything to be the future face of the WNBA and world women’s basketball, but before that she will have to learn.

For her second career match among the big boys, Caitlin Clark learned, to say the least. After its 20 points against the Connecticut Sun three days ago, CC came up against a very, very high level last night. That of a reigning WNBA finalist team, the New York Liberty, that of two of the best players in the world, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu. The first was ultra-solid (31 points), incredibly dominant, the second more discreet (14 points all the same), Jonquel Jones dominated in the racket and there was no match, with a 105- 66 from Marine Johannes’ former teammates, despite an attempted comeback at the start of the fourth quarter.

Caitlin Clark? 9 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, 2/8 shooting including 1/7 from the parking lot. An “off” evening, among those who are learning, against a team that is simply playing at a higher level, and further proof of the incredible and uncompromising level of the WNBA this season.

Next step ? Starting this evening for… a rematch, in New York this time, while in the evening the reigning champions of Las Vegas Ace will host the Los Angeles Sparks. Who said you have to rest between two Playoff matches?
