French Prospects Shine as Atlanta Hawks Secure First Overall Pick in 2024 NBA Draft

The 2024 Draft lottery delivered its verdict this Sunday: Atlanta inherited first place and will therefore have the number 1 choice, ahead of Washington and Houston. The San Antonio Spurs, winners of the lottery last year for Victor Wembanyama, inherit the fourth and eighth picks.

Will a Frenchman succeed Victor Wembanyama as number 1 in the 2024 NBA Draft? The lottery, which determines the order in which franchises will be able to choose a player in the Draft, has delivered its verdict. The first choice will therefore go to the Atlanta Hawks, ahead of the Washington Wizards and the Houston Rockets.

Picks 4 and 8 for the Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs, who inherited the first pick last year and were therefore able to choose Victor Wembanyama named rookie of the season, were still rather varnished: their difficult season allowed them to win the fourth choice, before a new pick in eighth position. Detroit, despite the worst record in the league, only inherits fifth place.

Several French players are presenting themselves for the Draft, which will take place on June 26 and 27. The best chances are Zaccharie Risacher (JL Bourg), Alexandre Sarr (Perth) and Tidjane Salaün (Cholet). At ESPN’s mock draft (provisional ranking), the three players appear in the top 15.

The order of the first 14 picks of the Draft after the lottery:

1- Atlanta Hawks
2- Washington Wizards
3- Houston Rockets
4- San Antonio Spurs
5- Detroit Pistons
6- Charlotte Hornets
7- Portland Trail Blazers
8- San Antonio Spurs
9- Memphis Grizzlies
10- Utah Jazz
11- Chicago Bulls
12- Oklahoma City Thunder
13- Sacramento Kings
14- Portland Trail Blazers
