French Archery Team Dominates European Championships in Essen

The French archery team won four medals, including two gold, during the European Championships in Essen (Germany).

Two Marseillaises, and very good promises for Paris. On Sunday, the two French archery teams became European champions in Essen. The women’s team with Lisa Barbelin, Caroline Lopez and Amélie Cordeau, opened the way by winning against the Netherlands 5-3. The men’s team with Thomas Chirault, Baptiste Addis and Jean-Charles Valladont also won their final 6-0 against Italy.

Ten years later, French archers won the two European team titles in the Olympic discipline. 75 days before the opening of the Paris Olympic Games, this is an important step which validates the work undertaken over many months to prepare for this deadline. Before that, the archers will compete in two World Cup stages, first in Yecheon in South Korea from May 21 to 26 and in Antalya from June 18 to 23.

Barbelin et Valladont in bronze

Two bronze medals were at stake for the French team during the individual recurve finals. Lisa Barbelin did not hang around to win her duel 6-0 against the Italian Tatiana Andreoli, while in the men’s small final the medal was assured since she pitted the experience of Jean-Charles Valladont against the youth of Baptiste Addis. Bronze went to Valladont with a score of 6-0; the Nîmes returns from Germany with two medals.

Pour Lisa Barbelin, “I was calm, I immediately felt that it was going to go well. During the warm-up I saw that she was better than me but I remained calm and composed. There was stress but my legs weren’t shaking. I will always approach finals with emotion and heart but I think I have analyzed the different traps I can fall into and that helps me manage well. »

“The conditions were weird with a calm shooting range and wind. We were quite united and efficient, things are starting to work well between us. It builds confidence and is good for everyone. This afternoon I had the experience of the morning. I managed to get into it well during the warm-up. I had Mr OH behind me so I really had to do things the right way”underlined Jean-Charles Valladont.
