French Archers Ready to Take on the World: The Second Stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Yecheon

The French teams are still on deck…From May 21 to 26, it’s time for the second stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Yecheon, South Korea. 354 athletes are expected.

By winning four medals, including two gold for the women’s and men’s teams during the European Championships in Essen (Germany), the tricolors confirmed their state of form.

Crowned with two titles at the European Championships, the French team travels with full confidence:

For Benoit Binon, the National Technical Director: “The results of these European Championships show that the shooters are ready. The archers are involved, concentrated with a state of mind that they must maintain until the Olympic Games. They have their quality of shooting, their level of performance and technique, to this they have added the state of mind that will have to be exploited until the end.

Validate the training work

“The only strategy is to do what we know how to do…We will continue to work to be even stronger on the big day,” adds Benoit Binon, very calm before taking off for Yecheon in South Korea.

It must be said that since the arrival in 2022 of Korean coach Oh Seon-Tek, a true world reference, the French team is moving forward by leaps and bounds and is today using each competition to put in place what has been seen in training.

Two and a half months before the Olympics, the French team is in working order, its roadmap is well in place.

New full-scale test starting next Tuesday in Yecheon (South Korea) which is preparing to welcome the athletes in good shape of the moment.

Starting in classic arc with the one who is currently bursting onto the screen, the Turk Mete Gazoz. At almost 25 years old, he will once again be the big favorite. With his titles, individual Olympic champion in Tokyo in 2021, world champion in Berlin in 2023, he became European champion in Essen. Never seen before at this level.

Still in recurve, there will also be the world number one, Marcus D’Almeida, who will rely on his experience of major events. He won the World Cup in 2023 in Mexico.

Among the women, all eyes will be on the American Casey Kaufhold, the current world number one, who will be the favorite. However, she will have to be wary of the Korean team registered for the Paris Olympics (Lim Sihyeon, Jeon Hunyoung and Nam Suhyeon).

Still among the women, but in compound arch this time, Sara Lopez will be a scarecrow. The Colombian with multiple World Cup titles intends to add a new one to her list of achievements. Just like her young British rival Ella Gibson, current number one in the world rankings.

Finally, on the men’s side, we will have to follow the tournament of one of the most successful archers of all time, Mike Schloesser, the Dutchman is the current world number one.
