French Archers Dominate European Championships in Essen, Setting New Records and Claiming Top Spots

The French team ideally started the European Championships in Essen (Germany) on Wednesday. In the men’s individual event, Thomas Chirault ranked first with a total of 692 points, which constitutes a new French record (two weeks after that of Baptiste Addis). This is the first time that a Frenchman has passed the 690 points mark.

Chirault beat Turkey’s Mete Gazoz, the reigning Olympic and world champion, and Baptiste Addis. Jean-Charles Valladont, the last French archer to medal at the Olympic Games (silver in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro) took 17th place. By accumulating the scores, the French team finished at the top of the team qualifications.

Among the women, Caroline Lopez took fourth place, while Lisa Barbelin, the leader of the French team, finished 12th. Finally, Amélie Cordeau ranked 26th. Les Bleues took third place in the team qualifications. In the mixed event, Thomas Chirault and Caroline Lopez finished first.
