Francisco Cerundolo Gains Confidence Ahead of Roland-Garros: “I Can Have a Big Tournament in Paris”

Francisco Cerundolo is doing better. Since his final in Rio (lost to Baez 7-5, 6-0), the Argentinian had difficulty going on (5 victories in 10 matches before Madrid). The 22nd in the world, very comfortable on clay, found himself at the best of times.

Author of a very convincing Spanish tournament (quarter-finalist by eliminating Zverev in the eighth), the 25-year-old regains ambition less than a month before Roland-Garros: “I arrived without great expectations, but small Little by little, I gained confidence in myself. […] Roland Garros is the Grand Slam in which I have the most confidence, it is the one in which I have done the best so far. I think I can have a big tournament in Paris.”

In comments relayed by Punto de Break, the one who will be seeded Porte d’Auteuil wanted to put the importance of results in a tennis player’s life into perspective: “People think that tennis players are robots, that we go on the court just to play, but outside we have a life with our family, our friends and our spouses. […] You shouldn’t put too much pressure on yourself, if you don’t achieve what you set for yourself, it’s not the end of the world either, you shouldn’t collapse mentally because of these expectations which we could not satisfy.

Whatever happens, Cerundolo will have to continue his good momentum in Rome since he reached the quarter-finals there last year (beaten by Casper Ruud).
