Former tennis star Roddick battled skin cancer

Former tennis world number one Andy Roddick has revealed that he has skin cancer. “I have dealt with various types of skin cancer since I stopped playing,” the 41-year-old American said in a podcast. A tumor was removed from his lip five or six years ago. The problems would probably accompany him for the rest of his life, said the 2003 US Open winner, who ended his career in 2012.

Roddick was red in some places on his face and also showed his red forehead when he took off his cap. He explained this with laser treatment. “I never talked about it. This morning we did the facial laser thing, so to those watching on YouTube it looks like I got into a fight,” said Roddick, known for his snarky attitude.

He linked the problems to the many hours he was exposed to sunlight while playing tennis. Roddick urged parents to put lotion on their children, especially when they played tennis. The problems would not appear at the age of eight, but perhaps at the age of 38, emphasized the father of two children. He doesn’t want to complain: “Nothing is wrong, everything is good – but use sunscreen.”
