Football: Raymond Domenech not re-elected as president of UNECATEF, coaches union

After two consecutive mandates, Raymond Domenech is leaving his post as president of UNICATEF, the union of football coaches in France which he took over in 2016. The new elections, organized this Monday at the French Football Federation during a general assembly, delivered their verdict and awarded victory to the list of opponents of the former coach of the French team.

The opposition list decided to place Bernard Reuzeau, former director of the PSG and ASM training centers, at the head of the union. A decision led by the trio Philippe Montanier, Claude Le Roy and Jacky Bonnevay. The new leader of UNECATEF will now have to designate the 20 members of the body’s new steering committee.

A very tense climate in recent months

A fall from grace of the former FC Nantes coach which could be explained by a tense atmosphere within the union itself, whose members accused Domenech “of having locked down the union and of making decisions without sufficient consultation”, according to the information from The Team. Attacks to which the 2006 World Cup finalist responded dryly: “Compared to these criticisms, I am stunned. Those who criticized me were on the steering committee and were not very invested.”

Created in 1972, the National Union of French Football Coaches and Technical Executives (UNECATEF) aims to create solidarity between coaches and defend them against dismissals by obtaining financial compensation.
