For 18 long years, Chemnitz played in the second division. And for years, Niners fans dreamed of one day being promoted to the Basketball Bundesliga so that they could play a guest game at the big league leader Alba.

And that’s when the Niners anthem was born: “One day it’s going to happen, then we’re going to Alba to see the Niners play.”
It’s a thing of the past! Because just playing in Berlin is no longer enough for the fans. After the win in the playoff quarter finals against Rasta Vechta, the fans want more – and simply changed the words of their long-standing anthem. Now they’re going to Alba “to see the Niners win.”

Increased expectations, especially after the victory in the Europe Cup at the end of April. The same applies to the players: Chemnitz native Jonas Richter (26) is euphoric after the success in Vechta: “When I was still very new to the pros, the fans in the second division always sang the Alba song,” said the winger in the Freie Presse. “But this time we are going there to compete in the semi-finals of the German championship. And we are not even complete underdogs.”
Chemnitz so far only with one victory against Alba in the Bundesliga
This season, both games in Berlin again went to Alba, as in all previous encounters since the promotion in 2020. The Chemnitz team has only managed one win against the capital team so far. That came in March 2022 with a clear 81:64 against tired Alba professionals.

But with the rewritten Niners anthem, the first success in Berlin should finally be achieved. There could be no better time. “We want to play at least four games in the best-of-five series in order to play twice at home in front of our home crowd,” said Niners spokesman Matthias Pattloch.
Niners coach Rodrigo Pastore can probably rely on all players. Tylor Ongwae (thigh) and Kaza Kajami-Keane (calf), who were recently injured, are fit to play again.
