FIP Presidency, an electoral campaign without programs

«If five/six Serie A clubs could have satellite clubs it would be easier». These are the words of Michele Catalani, the man from Olimpia Milano’s youth sector, tricolor with the Under 19s, winner of the LBA Next Gen and among the finalists of the EuroLeague Adidas Next Gen.

We talk about young people, about the space they can find in the current system, about a bond which, when it disappears, makes everything even more complex, even if it ends up like this throughout Europe.

A satellite club, let’s be clear, is not necessarily the solution, and certainly the reactions of the public themselves would be different. We’re not saying we agree or not, but reading this interview on Tuttosport another reflection comes to mind.

For the first time in a while, we read “ideas”, “proposals”. What is totally missing in the electoral race that has just begun. The magic word is “programs”, and as of May 9th we find no trace of it.

There are still seven months left until the FIP Elective Assembly, and the electoral campaign, which does not concern the fans but the clubs, is carried out in the Regional Committees, and not in the newspapers.

However, the disconnect between the public, the fans, and the institutions of our basketball has been evident for years. Probably superior to many other sports, perhaps even football.

The people crowding the buildings are asking for “change”, but what are they currently reading in the newspapers and portals in terms of programs? Nothingness. Apart from some forced journalistic invective about the inelegant timing of the Valori candidacy.
