Ferrari, took Loic Serra and Jerome D’Ambrosio from Mercedes. Here’s what they’ll do

All that was missing was the official announcement, it has arrived. Ferrari took Loic Serra and Jerome D’Ambrosio from Mercedes. Once the contract has been signed, the two will begin working in Maranello from 1 October. Therefore they will be busy in the final of this championship but above all in the next one.

Serra, the tire wizard

Both come from Mercedes, as far as Serra is concerned it is an important addition on a technical level. His experience in the field of tires and suspension was considered fundamental, in Toto Wolff’s team he held the position of head of performance. At Ferrari he will have a top position as head of chassis performance engineering reporting directly to the technical director, Enrico Cardile. He will be the point of contact between various departments, coordinating the work with the engineers on the track, the aerodynamicists in the factory and the group dedicated to the car’s performance. He will be a supervisor with important decision-making powers, he was in fact one of the first names wanted by Vasseur in the signing campaign. Fifty-two years old, French, after graduating in mechanical engineering he worked at Michelin and then at Sauber (at the time of BMW engines) before moving to Mercedes.

D’Ambrosio former right-hand man of Toto Wolff

D’Ambrosio, a former driver (20 F1 GPs, but also raced in Formula E) becomes Fred Vasseur’s deputy, filling the void that was created with the departure of Laurent Mekies (now head of Racing Bulls). He will also be head of the Ferrari Academy, the youth program: after Marco Matassa’s exit, in fact, it was entrusted on an interim basis to Jock Clear who is also Leclerc’s coach. D’Ambrosio, 37, Belgian, had become Wolff’s right-hand man at Mercedes and had also looked after young drivers there.
