Ferrari #50 disqualified after qualifying for the 6 Hours of Spa, Porsche #5 finds itself on pole

The joy of Antonio Fuoco, author of his second pole in a row on Friday at Spa after that obtained three weeks ago at Imola, was short-lived. In the evening, the technical stewards announced the disqualification of the No. 50 Ferrari 499P, which the Italian shares with Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen, for a minimum weight deemed not to comply with the regulations.

The No. 2 Cadillac on the front line

For this violation of Article 4.1 of the LMH 2024 technical regulations, the Italian prototype is therefore excluded and will start on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the back of the Hypercars peloton, in 19th position on the grid. Ferrari said the weight of the #50 was around 1 kg less than the minimum weight, and said a collision during free practice 3 had damaged the rear of the #50 499P. A new element had to be installed, which caused this slight weight loss.

This mishap obviously benefits the crew which finished 2nd in the Hyperpole, that of the Porsche 963 n°5 of Frédéric Makowiecki, Matt Campbell and Michael Christensen. Alongside him on the front line will be the No. 2 Cadillac of Alex Lynn and Earl Bamber. Three other Porsche 963s will follow, the No. 99 from Proton Competition, the No. 12 from Team Jota and the No. 5 from Porsche Penske.
