Fenerbahçe Beko Makes History by Winning Fifth EuroLeague Play-Off Match away from Home

Defeating Monaco 80-79 in overtime in the fifth and last match of the THY EuroLeague play-off quarter-final, Fenerbahçe Beko won the series 3-2 and advanced to the Final Four.

The home team, which started the match quickly (6-2) with Motley and Hayes-Davis baskets, took good advantage of Fenerbahçe Beko’s consecutive ball losses, and finished the first quarter 15-13 ahead.

Responding to Monaco, which started the second quarter with a 5-0 run, with Tarık Biberovic and Sestina’s three-pointers, the yellow-dark blue team did not allow the difference to widen: 20-19. Increasing the difference up to 7 points three times in this quarter, Monaco closed the half ahead 40-35.

In the third quarter, where the 25th minute was tied at 45-45, Fenerbahçe Beko responded to Monaco, which widened the gap (55-48) again with Motiejunas and James, with Tarık Biberovic’s 3 consecutive three-pointers in the last part, and entered the last quarter ahead 56-55.

The yellow-dark blue team entered the last 5 minutes with a 64-60 advantage thanks to the baskets of Calathes and Tarık Biberovic. However, when they could not prevent the baskets of James and Okobo, the home team took the lead 68-67 with 1 minute and 14 seconds left. In the match, which entered the last 45 seconds with a 70-70 draw, Monaco could not make good use of the last attack following Wilbekin’s erroneous pass, so extra time was required.

Fenerbahçe Beko, which gained an 80-79 advantage over its opponent with Calathes’ consecutive three-pointers in the last part of the overtime, did not give Monaco a chance to score in the jump ball with 2.5 seconds left and succeeded in qualifying for the Final Four for the 6th time in its history.

Fenerbahçe Beko, which reached the Final Four after 5 years, will face Greece’s Panathinaikos AKTOR team, whose head coach is Ergin Ataman, in the semi-finals.
