Fear of innovating in the coverage of the Giro time trials

In the top 10 of the Giro there are names that we surely do not remember

I want to start quickly and simply, saying that the top 10 of the Giro can be cheap is not the most respectful way for some pros who do an incredible job for three weeks in a brutal race, but it is the most graphic way to explain that In the Giro d’Italia there are always names among the best that we don’t expect and we surely don’t remember.

It is true that there are always unexpected cyclists in the general classification of the grand tours, but this is more pronounced in the Giro, where we have had tenants in the top 10 who would not have entered the previous pools.

This whole detour is relevant for the general that is being formed in the middle of the race this year.

It is a general classification controlled very well by Tadej Pogacar that features names that we will surely notice before starting the race, let’s say Geraint Thomas, Ben O’Connor or Daniel Martínez.

Even Romain Bardet is normal for him to be there, although in his case thanks to a breakaway that made him recover positions, and also Antonio Tiberi -maglia bianca- and Thymen Arensman, closing the top 10.

Then there are other cyclists who were not in the plans, but I don’t find it aberrant to see them there either, no matter how much I read so many things from so many people.

Of course Lorenzo Fortunato, Filippo Zana and Einer Rubio did not enter the previous listsbut their names are not unknown to us, all three have won stages in this race.

If we look at the last ten Giros we see many cyclists that we would not have counted on even in our dreams.

The 2020 edition was very specialfor being out of focus in time and right behind the Tour.

The podium itself was completely unpredictable, with Tao, Hindley and Kelderman, but it came about thanks to Joao Almeida and cyclists like Masnada and Pernsteiner entered the top ten.

The top 10 of the Giro of this period includes twice riders such as Davide Formolo, Alexander Geniex, Patrick Konrad and Andrey Amadorwho I hope will recover quickly from his accident.

Surely you remember them, as well as cyclists like Pierre Rolland, Rober Kiserlovski, Leopold König, Yuri Trofimov, Bob Jungels, Jan Polanc, Sam Oomen, Tobias Foss or Eddie Dunbar.

You see that they are names that would not be counted on, but that entered and won the place.

This Giro, in that sense, has a top 10 that is very consistent with what the race has been throughout its history, which is why I don’t see so much commotion when I review the general classification, after all, no one has given them anything.

Of course, get used to seeing Bahrain, Ineos, Bora or Decathlon shoot more times to save a place of honor.
