FC Metz Looks to Reorganize for Future Season

In Ligue 1 or at the lower level, FC Metz does not yet know what its future will hold. It will be set on Sunday, on the evening of the return play-off which will pit it against Saint-Etienne, but it did not wait for this deadline to reorganize itself for next season. He didn’t really have the time, preempted by the vast transfer window of the current leaders which affects the whole of France, and in particular its football director Pierre Dréossi. Barring an unlikely turnaround, the latter will continue his career at Lens after two mixed years: the 64-year-old manager was an important player in the comeback last summer, but his results for the season are much less stellar.

Like the entire management of the club, Dréossi had strangely not anticipated promotion to L1, and therefore began recruitment late compared to the competition, and this led to two disastrous transfer windows (summer and winter). . If we omit the return of Georges Mikautadze, whose options in January boiled down to remaining at Ajax without playing or returning to Metz with whom he appeared at the start of the season, few recruits have performed under the Metz jersey.

To replace him, President Bernard Serin should opt for an in-house solution, with the promotion of Frédéric Arpinon. A former member of the recruitment unit at the time of Philippe Gaillot, the latter had held the role of general manager at Génération Foot for two years, the Senegalese academy partner of FC Metz. Which did not prevent Bernard Serin from surveying him in recent months on his strategic choices for the sports sector.

If nothing has yet been made official, Arpinon has returned to business in Lorraine and has been working behind the scenes for several weeks on the face of next season’s team, in L1 or L2. It remains to be seen to what exact position the former midfielder (55 years old) will be officially appointed. Still under contract with the Garnets, recruitment manager Bob Tahri should remain at the club.
