Thomas Tuchel is leaving FC Bayern at the end of the season
In the meantime, it looked as if Thomas Tuchel could stay at FC Bayern after all. The record champions’ current coach has now confirmed contract talks, but is still leaving Munich at the end of the season.
The decision whether Thomas Tuchel will stay at FC Bayern has been made. The coach will definitely leave the German record champions after the end of the season. Tuchel confirmed on Friday concrete discussions about continuing the activity. However, there was no agreement.
The search for a coach at FC Bayern Munich continues. Because Thomas Tuchel will not make a spectacular turnaround at the German soccer record champions – and, as agreed almost three months ago, will leave the club early at the end of the season.
“This is the last press conference on Säbener Strasse. We have not found an agreement for further cooperation. That’s why the agreement in February remains,” Tuchel said on Friday in the press conference before his last game as Bayern coach this Saturday in the Bundesliga at TSG Hoffenheim.
“Last week there was only the theoretical possibility of making a 180-degree turnaround. The initiative came from the club,” said Tuchel. It was difficult for him to leave the team.
Unsuccessful courtship for Alonso, Nagelsmann and Rangnick
After the Bayern bosses had not found a successor in recent months, the agreed termination of the contract with the 50-year-old Tuchel was reconsidered after strong performances in the Champions League.

When looking for a coach, Bayern had to remove several top candidates such as Xabi Alonso (Bayer Leverkusen), Julian Nagelsmann (national coach) and Ralf Rangnick (Austria national coach) from the list of candidates. Contacts with other trainers such as the former Wolfsburg and Frankfurter Oliver Glasner were also unsuccessful.

The Munich team decided to part ways with Tuchel at the end of the season in February. The former Champions League winner with FC Chelsea only won the championship with the Munich team in more than a year in the 2022/23 season, in which he came to Munich in March 2023 as Nagelsmann’s successor. This season the team was dethroned in the championship by Bayer 04 Leverkusen after eleven titles in a row.
