According to consistent media reports, FC Bayern is close to signing coach Vincent Kompany. All that is missing is the signature of the 38-year-old Belgian, as “Sky” reported on Saturday. According to the report, the record champions have agreed with Kompany’s previous employer FC Burnley on a transfer fee of between 10 million and 12 million euros – “The Times” reports 12 million euros. That is almost half the transfer fee that the Munich team paid to RB Leipzig for Julian Nagelsmann in 2021. At that time, according to RB boss Oliver Mintzlaff, 25 million euros were paid.

The former Manchester City and Hamburger SV professional is now set to sign a contract with the German record champions until 2027. According to the “Bild” newspaper, he will be assisted by Floribert Ngalula, Bram Geers and René Maric (FC Bayern II). Kompany was relegated from the Premier League with Burnley this season after leading the club to promotion in 2022/23. The former defender began his coaching career at RSC Anderlecht and led the then struggling Belgian record champions to third place twice.

For Bayern, signing Kompany would bring a long search to an end. After the announced separation from Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, national coach Julian Nagelsmann and Austrian national coach Ralf Rangnick all declined. The signing of former SGE coach Oliver Glasner, who is on a successful path with Crystal Palace, also did not materialize. Roger Schmidt from Benfica Lisbon also declined, and recent efforts to continue with Tuchel also failed.
