Farewell to Can Uzun: A Look at the Clash with Coach Fiél and Future at Eintracht Frankfurt

In his last game for 1. FC Nürnberg he delivered again! But there were still more than just warm words for Can Uzun (18/moving to Eintracht Frankfurt)!

With his 16th goal of the season and an assist, Uzun was the match winner for many in the 3-0 win against Elversberg. Coach Cristian Fiél (44) said, surprisingly, a bit harshly: “I see men of the game differently. But maybe that’s why I’m the coach.”

Fiél countered an objection that Uzun had boosted the offensive with his performance (involved in seven shots on goal): “But that’s his job as an offensive player.” Because he is suspended for the season finale after his fifth yellow card, it was Uzun’s last Nuremberg appearance.

What’s behind this gossipy farewell?

The relationship between the coach and his exceptional talent was rarely really cordial. Fiél, for whom the team spirit is above all else, had problems with the teenager’s self-assessment throughout the season.

Behind closed doors, Uzun was always accused internally of always just wanting to shine – at the expense of the necessary work against the ball. That’s why Uzun recently only sat on the bench in the game in Düsseldorf (1:3). That’s why Fiél only gave limited credit to Uzun’s performance this season: “He played exceptionally. As for the goals scored.” And: “I wish him all the best in his future footballing journey.”

Fiél’s secret message behind these words: Uzun will have to change if he wants to bring his ambitious career plan to life. In the Bundesliga he needs a different attitude than he has shown so far.
