Failed to stop Leverkusen, Roma is just unlucky

Leverkusen

AS Roma have equalized the aggregate score against Bayer Leverkusen. An own goal ruined everything for Roma.

Roma visited BayArena, Friday (10/5/2024) early morning WIB, in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final, trailing 0-2. In the process, Daniele De Rossi’s polished team was able to equalize the score through a pair of Leandro Paredes penalties.

Too bad for Rome. A corner kick from Leverkusen was not well anticipated and hit Gianluca Mancini and went into his own goal.

Left behind again, Roma took risks and increased the intensity of their attacks. Leverkusen then used this to hit with a quick attack and get a goal from Josip Stanisic.

“It’s a shame, because until the 80th minute we were holding the game. Unfortunately, an own goal forced us forward and left a gap behind,” said the Argentine national team midfielder.

“We did everything we had to do. We congratulate them, they played very well. Unfortunately, an own goal punished us,” he added to Rai.

Failing to reach the final, Roma are now hoping to appear in the Champions League next season via Serie A. They are now in sixth position and must beat Atalanta who are in fifth place, Monday (13/5) to be able to determine their own fate.

“It certainly won’t help anything. We have to give 110% and perform much better than today. We need to play braver and do more. We hope we can recover well and arrive at Sunday’s match in the best conditions,” added Peredes.
