Exciting First Round Draws for German Tennis Stars at French Open

DTB talent Eva Lys can look forward to a really lucky draw in her first ever French Open participation. The 22-year-old from Hamburg is expecting not only an extremely atmospheric match in the first round, but also a full house.

It doesn’t get much better or bigger than this: Germany’s tennis talent Eva Lys will face local hero Caroline Garcia in the first round of this year’s French Open. The duel against the number 21 seeded Frenchwoman is already scheduled for Monday and will take place on the Court Philippe-Chatrier, which has a capacity of over 15,000 spectators and is the biggest stage that Roland Garros has to offer.

If Lys manages to pull off a surprise in the first round, she could face DTB colleague Laura Siegemund in her next match. In her first match, Siegemund will face former French Open winner Sofia Kenin (USA).

Jule Niemeier, who like Lys had to go through the difficult qualification, will face the Chinese Xinyu Wang in her first match.

Kerber faces early duel against Rybakina

Angelique Kerber also has a tough path through the main draw ahead of her. After her first round match against the Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, one of the favorites, the Kazakhstan player Elena Rybakina, could be waiting for the former world number one.

The draw is similarly tough for Tatjana Maria. Her path through the tournament initially leads via the Dane Clara Tauson. In the second round she will face the former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko.

As the last German starter at this year’s French Open, Tamara Korpatsch was drawn against the American Ashlyn Krueger in the first round. In the following round, the 29-year-old from Hamburg could face the seventh-seeded Chinese Qinwen Zheng.
