Europa League: Marseillais Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang voted best player of the competition

At the end of February, he became the top scorer in the history of the Europa League. Scorer with Marseille against Shakhtar Donetsk, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring his 31st goal in the competition, surpassing the record holder at the time, the Colombian Radamel Falcao.

Three months later, the Marseille striker was named best player in the competition, having scored no less than 10 goals in 11 matches in C3 since the start of the season. Top scorer, the former Gunner also provided three assists. And even if these performances did not allow the Marseillais to qualify for the final, stopped in the previous round by Bergamo, “Aubam'” left its mark.

With this distinction, the 34-year-old striker is once again hailed for his impressive season in the Marseille jersey. In all competitions, he scored 30 goals and provided 11 assists, all in 51 matches with OM.

Not enough to return to Europe with OM

Already crowned best African player in Ligue 1, Aubameyang is once again distinguished for having made the history of the Europa League. Unfortunately, Marseille’s European adventure came to an end in the semi-final against the future winners of Atalanta Bergamo, who soundly beat the invincibles of Leverkusen (3-0) in the final.

Despite these very high personal statistics, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will not have succeeded in qualifying Olympique de Marseille for the European Cup next year, with the Marseille club finishing eighth in the league.
