Elkan Baggott and Alfeandra Dewangga, options for the match against Guinea

KOMPAS.com – The Indonesian U23 national team has the potential to make a number of player changes ahead of the inter-confederation playoff match against Guinea to compete for the final ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Indonesian U23 national team will face Africa’s representative, Guinea, at CNF Clairefontaine, just outside Paris, France, for the final slot for the Olympics.

This inter-confederation playoff match will start on Thursday (9/5/2024).

Garuda Muda will certainly not be strengthened by captain Rizky Ridho, who still has to serve a suspension after he received a red card in the semifinal match against Uzbekistan.

Defender Justin Hubner has also reportedly returned to his club, Cerezo Osaka, in the Japanese League.

However, the Indonesian National Team continues to try to bring him back to the playoffs.

“Currently, Justin Hubner has returned to his club,” said Shin Tae-yong’s right-hand man in the Indonesian U23 National Team, Nova Arianto, to BolaSport this Friday.

“We are also writing to his club again to ask him to play against Guinea.”

However, Hubner will also continue to be suspended due to the accumulation of yellow cards.

The left-handed defender received a yellow card when the Indonesian U23 National Team lost 0-2 to Uzbekistan in the semifinals and he received another warning from the referee in the defeat against Iraq.

In order to cover Hubner’s absence, PSSI reportedly intends to call up Elkan Baggott, who has just completed his loan to Bristol Rovers from Ipwswich Town and PSIS Semarang defender Alfeandra Dewangga.

Dewangga has also provided a code via his personal Instagram that he is at the French Embassy in Indonesia.

Nova also admitted that communication continues to be built for the services of the two players.

“To call these players (Elkan Baggott and Alfreandra Dewangga) the options are there,” said the shaved-headed man.

“But, we see the results of communication with overseas player clubs.”

Baggott became a mainstay during his loan period with Bristol Rovers in League One or the third caste of the Premier League.

He always appears 90 minutes when fit, making 14 appearances since arriving in January 2024 with 12 of them as starters.
