Dominican Judo Team to Compete at World Championships in Abu Dhabi

SANTO DOMINGO.- The top national judo team will take part in the 42nd edition of the World Judo Championships in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, which will take place from the 19th to the 24th of this month.

The championship, organized by the International Judo Federation (IJF) and the Emirati Federation of that discipline, will deliver the last qualifying points to the Olympic Games in Paris, France.

The Quisqueyan representation, which made the trip with the support of the IJF and the Creating Olympic Dreams Group (Creso), is made up of the athletes Medickson del Orbe, Robert Florentino, Eiraima Silvestre, Antonio Tornal and Moira Morillo.

The judokas will be led by coaches Wilkin Ogando and Wander Mateo, and Gilberto García, president of the Dominican Judo Federation, made the trip as a delegate.

The individual World Championships will be held from the 19th to the 23rd, while the mixed team competitions will be on Sunday the 24th.

Del Orbe will compete in -81 kilos; Robert Florentino at -90 kilograms; Wild at -78 kilos; Tornal at -73 kilograms, and Moira at more than 78 kilograms.
