Diego Schwartzman bids an emotional farewell to Roland-Garros

It’s definitely an emotional day at Roland-Garros. After Dominic Thiem’s moving farewell to the Paris tournament, it is Diego Schwartman’s turn to leave Roland‐Garros before his definitive withdrawal from the professional circuit.

Beaten by Quentin Halys after a huge battle of more than 3 hours of play, this Wednesday in the second round of qualifying, Diego Schwartzman therefore played his last match at Porte d’Auteuil, he who will retire in February 2025 at home, on the Buenos Aires tournament.

Invited to speak on court after the match, the Argentinian could not hold back his tears when thinking about his career and the numerous matches played on Parisian clay.

“The last match here shows how I played my whole career at Roland Garros. For me it is very special. I thank everyone. It’s not easy to play against a Frenchman here, but I felt like I was at home. To be honest, I feel very good. I did what I know how to do. I fought very hard to win the match. He (Quentin Halys) deserved to win. Congratulations to him and to all the French people. I have had many battles to fight here and I will never forget any of them. Even this one. As Dominic Thiem said before… Playing on the Suzanne‐Lenglen in front of a whole crowd, I will always remember that. Thank you everyone for all these moments. »
