Dedicated Judo Teacher Franck Bérenguel Empowers All Abilities in Sports and Beyond

Franck Bérenguel started judo in 2010 with the Castellane club. He then obtained his black belt in 2014, then obtained the state diploma as a teacher of judo and associated disciplines. Today he teaches judo, taïso and jiu-jitsu in the clubs of Castellane, La Palud-sur-Verdon and Saint-André-les-Alpes.

This emeritus professor also has to his credit a specialization in adapted sport (sport-health approach “taïso and sports health chronic diseases”). These are training courses set up by the French Judo Federation, around various pathologies (people in remission from cancer, suffering from diabetes or severe osteoarthritis). A group of 20 people has already been trained in Castellane.

Franck Bérenguel also takes care of young judokas. At the end of March, he organized and hosted a training course in the Saint-André-les-Alpes sports hall, to allow players from the three clubs to improve their skills and share their passion. He was assisted for this internship by Christian Duflot, 1st dan black belt, practicing and supervising for forty years at the Castellane club and Julien Ambrois, 1st dan black belt for ten years and qualified club assistant for five years. “Franck Bérenguel is a passionate and dedicated teacher, always listening to his students, he adapts to their levelthey comment. He is also very patient and encourages his students to surpass themselves…” “Frank is a workaholic“, adds the president of the Castellane club, Bernard Ambrois.

In addition to teaching the practice, Frank complements his skills with training… What guided him towards the disabled sports approach? “In this Olympic and Paralympic year, it is important to focus on athletes with disabilities and provide the means for everyone to participate and train in any sport.he explains. There is already a young person with a disability, Antonio, who participates for two hours every Friday in the usual adult and adolescent course..”

Integrate visually and hearing impaired people

So that this great initiative does not stop there, Franck Bérenguel carried out an internship for the two federations: “Handi et sport” which concerns more physical handicaps and “Para et sport” around mental deficiencies such as autism. The “Inclusive Club” training, which brings together all sports associations (swimming, tennis, basketball, etc.), makes it possible to welcome people with motor disabilities.

At the same time, another internship allowed him to work with physically disabled people. During his training course at the end of March in Valbonne, Franck turned to handijudo: “Judo particularly concerns the visually and hearing impaired who can thrive despite their disability.he specifies. But all cases are accepted and then oriented according to their abilities.”

To do this, he observed practice at the Digne swimming pool and studied relationships in a real situation in Manosque. “You have to know how to adapt your speechhe adds, learn to discuss with them in the right way, to adapt these techniques to judo and taiso“Frank Bérenguel is keen to continue to improve in all these areas.”Learning is never over“, he asks. As proof, President Bernard Ambrois also took a course to improve his role as an administrator.

In Saint-André-les-Alpes, Castellane and La Palud-sur-Verdon, in addition to courses for all levels, competitions and courses are organized throughout the year. The training of Franck and his colleagues will make it possible to extend the practice to other people who do not necessarily have all the abilities for a “classic” practice.
