DAZN pays television money to the Bundesliga

The clubs in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga can breathe easy. The Internet sports broadcaster DAZN has transferred the installment of TV money that has just become due to the German Football League (DFL), as people familiar with the matter confirm to the German Press Agency. According to reports, this is the May installment of around 25 million euros.

This is somewhat reassuring for the clubs after they had been informed by the DFL the previous week about outstanding payments of around 80 million euros. The money that was not paid out as planned is not due to flow until December. Until then, the 36 professional clubs have to compensate for the deficit themselves.

The clubs had received a letter from the DFL headquarters, which said: “The distribution rate for June 2024 will be reduced from the original 127 million euros to 47 million euros.” The promised money should flow later “as payments from partners are not being received could be provided on the contractual due dates. At the instigation of the partners concerned, agreements had to be made about later payments.”

The majority of the missing income, around 50 million, has to be paid by DAZN. These are the installments for March and April that have not yet been paid and are due to arrive at the end of the year. It is currently not known which company other than DAZN is involved or whether there are more than two debtors.
