Darts’ once-in-a-century talent Luke Littler reaches the next milestone at just 17 years of age. Thanks to a gala performance, the Englishman wins the Premier League, beating the best players in the world. Littler feels satisfaction.

In the hour of his greatest triumph to date, darts super talent Luke Littler thought of his critics. “There were people who doubted that I would be nominated for the Premier League. But now I’ve won the trophy,” said Littler after winning the Premier League final 11-7 against world champion Luke Humphries: “For all the doubters: you don’t doubt me anymore! I’ve just won this.”

Littler’s participation was still controversial after his sensational World Cup final appearance in January. But in front of over 14,000 spectators in London on Thursday evening, the 17-year-old Englishman once again proved his class. First, he gave former world champion Michael Smith no chance in a 10:5 win, then he successfully took revenge for the lost World Cup final – and even managed a rare nine-darter against Humphries.

“I really enjoyed it,” said Littler. The youngster reached the final in his first World Championship and in his Premier League debut – only darts legend Phil Taylor has managed that before.

Now Littler is heading to New York

After 17 exhausting weeks with a lot of travel stress, things are only getting a little easier for Littler. “I’m a major title winner now. Next week I’m going to New York and then I’ll spend a week in Orlando,” said Littler. Littler will compete in a World Series event organized by the PDC in New York’s famous Madison Square Garden.

Littler is currently ranked 25th in the world rankings, behind Martin Schindler and Gabriel Clemens. There are two reasons for this: the young Englishman has only been in the two-year rankings for about half a year, meaning he hasn’t played one and a half seasons. In addition, the triumph in the Premier League brought prize money of more than 300,000 euros. However, this does not count towards the world rankings because the highly endowed event is an invitational tournament. This year’s field consisted of eight professionals.
