Cuban Pitcher Jonathan Carbó Seeks MLB Signature After Departure from Italian League

The young pitcher for Cuban baseball teams, Pinero Jonathan Carbó, 26, decided not to return to the island after his expulsion from the Italian league and settled in the Dominican Republic in search of a signature in the Major Leagues.

According to the report on Facebook by specialist Francys Romero, Carbó arrived in the Dominican Republic this weekend and will seek to sign with a Major League Baseball (MLB) organization.

“He was a member of the Cuba team in multiple events including the U-23 World Cup (2021) and the World Baseball Classic pre-roll. In his last National Series he went 5-5, 2.59 ERA, 60 SO in 90.1 IP. Has the potential to get a signaturestarter repertoire with a fastball that stays at 91-94 MPH,” Romero said.

In mid-April of this year, Carbó arrived in Italy along with other Cuban players such as Juan Xavier and Jorge Luis Barcelán to play in the professional series there, but last week the club announced that he had been expelled for “serious indiscipline.”

After leaving the Italian club, according to reports on social networks, the Pinero pitcher was “missing” for several days, until his appearance in the Dominican Republic was reported in search of a professional MLB contract.

The Pinero pitcher played in Italy under a contract from the regime’s Baseball Federation, so this arrival in the Dominican Republic means the breaking of his ties with the Cuban entity and can be classified as another desertion from the island’s sports system.

Carbó debuted in the National Series in 2015 with the “Pirates” team of the Isle of Youth. In Cuba he participated in 9 National Series, with a general balance of 33 wins and 41 losses, for a pitching average of 4.34 in the Cuban championships and five strikeouts per nine innings.
