Cuban Pitcher Exiled from Federation Seeks MLB Contract

Officials from the Cuban regime’s baseball federation expelled this Monday, during a press conference, Pinero pitcher Jonathan Carbó, who did not return to the island after the end of his stay in the Italian series of this sport.

According to reports on social networks, an image from the conference shows that the athlete Carbó was the subject of a “dishonorable expulsion from the competitive baseball system.”

The young pitcher from the Isle of Youth, 26 years old, decided not to return to the island after his expulsion from the Italian league and settled in the Dominican Republic in search of a signature in the Major Leagues.

According to the report on Facebook by specialist Francys Romero, Carbó arrived in the Dominican Republic this weekend and will seek to sign with a Major League Baseball (MLB) organization.

“He was a member of the Cuba team in multiple events, including the U-23 World Cup (2021) and the World Baseball Classic pre-selection. In his last National Series he went 5-5, 2.59 ERA, 60 SO in 90.1 IP. He has potential to achieve a signature, starter repertoire with a fastball that stays at 91-94 MPH,” Romero said.

Carbó played in Italy under a contract from the regime’s Baseball Federation, so this arrival in the Dominican Republic means the breaking of his ties with the Cuban entity and is classified as another desertion from the island’s sports system. Hence the reaction of the regime’s federations.

In mid-April of this year, Carbó arrived in Italy along with other Cuban players such as Juan Xavier and Jorge Luis Barcelán to play in the professional series there, but last week the club announced that he had been expelled for “serious indiscipline.”

After leaving the Italian club, according to reports on social networks, the Pinero pitcher was “missing” for several days, until his appearance in the Dominican Republic was reported in search of a professional MLB contract.
