Cuban athletes failed to win medals in the Qazaqstan Barysy 2024 Judo Grand Slam, in Kazakhstan, after the defeat of Idalys Ortiz (78 kg) in the second round.

This Sunday, the multiple Olympic and world medalist achieved the only victory for the Greater Antilles in the competition, achieved by hansoku-make against the local Akerke Ramazanova.

In her second outing, she was erratic, receiving a shido for a false attack when she had already accumulated one for avoiding the grip and another for leaving the combat area, which declared victory for the Russian Daria Vladimirova.

His performance closed Cuban participation in the contest, in which none of the five members of the small delegation could do themselves justice.

The Russian Yahor Varapayeu (90 kg) won the third gold medal for that nation, which also won two other bronze medals on the date.

With three crowns, two subtitles and three bronze medals they would dominate the general classification, if it were not for the veto of the governing body of this sport in the world for Russian exponents to represent their federation in international events.

In short, Japan, with the titles achieved this Sunday by Tatsuro Saito (+100 kg) and Aaron Wolf (100 kg), finished as leader of the national classification.

On the closing day, the French Romane Dicko (+78 kg) and the Chinese Ma Zhenzhao (78 kg) also triumphed, placing their country in third place, behind Italy.

Croatia, Kazakhstan, France, Portugal, Israel, Uzbekistan and Canada won at least one title and took places from fourth to tenth in that order.

The next stop on the world tour of the International Judo Federation (IJF) will be in Abu Dhabi, which will host the world championship from the 19th to the 23rd of the current month.
