Cosne Basket Concludes Successful Season with 108-56 Victory and Promotions

The 108-56 victory of UCS Cosne Basket, Saturday at home, is a reflection of the club’s season which it concluded, brilliantly. Maintenance and qualification for a brilliant second phase of Pre-National for the flag team, promotion for the reserve and the U18s… and a guaranteed place in the departmental cup final!

The Cosnois basketball players rounded off the 2023-2024 financial year in sparkling fashion by winning 108 to 56 against Saint-Apollinaire, at Cosec Marcel-Chevrin. They thus rank 3rd in the Prénationale, a stone’s throw from the second, CSL Dijon, beaten to the wire on Saturday by Chenôve, who will move up to NM3 and who (regrets!!), Cosne beat a month ago…

Superb second part of the season

Liberated and without pressure, they finished with a resounding and large victory at the expense of a team which had nothing more to expect from this match. For the Ligeriens, the underlying objective was victory in order to secure the place on the podium, if possible in style.

Coach Benjamin Pataud confirms this. “We validate our 3rd place which was not obvious last fall. This match allows us to finish the season in style and to please our public. The boys work during the week, it pays! »

“The club is having a very good season after the difficult year 2022-2023 at the end of which we barely held on,” summarizes president Laye N’Dir, also happy with the fervor of the public which was created during the year. With the shutdown of several executives, we set off again into the unknown and with a lot of apprehension, but we are doing very well. »

Towards the cup final

Qualification in the upper group of accession validated the continuation in Prenationale in December, but it is at the end of the season that the Cosnois shine the most. “We achieved a superb 2nd phase with only one defeat at Cosec, against Montceau, and a prestigious victory against Chenôve which is on the rise,” recalls Laye N’Dir.

The arrivals of Peter Cognon and Dan Essoh brought a lot, as did those of the young Neuvycois Yzia Godard and Simon Suppliciau who gradually took their place in the flag squad. After this place on the podium, all that remains is to get the Nièvre Cup. The path to the final is very open. Indeed, in the semi-final, the Cosnois will play against… their reserve.

A whole successful club

The rest of the club is in unison. The senior reserve flew through the departmental championship and moved up to R3. Same upward curve for the U18s who will compete in a play-off in September to also evolve at the regional level. Two accessions on the floors which will nevertheless have to be validated administratively according to the means made available to the club.

In addition, the next season promises to be tough. A reform is being prepared. So from September, there will only be one Prenational hen, instead of two currently. We will therefore have to know how to capitalize on the experience of this season.
