Coach Saňák ended up with the football players of Olomouc

Hanáci overwintered in fifth place in the table, but the spring part did not go well for them. After the first four spring rounds, in which they failed to win, the club management dismissed Jílka. Saňák moved to his place from the position of assistant.

After 30 rounds of the regular season, Olomouc took eighth place and got into the middle superstructure group. However, the team did not achieve their goal of advancing to the European Cups, as they lost both games 1:3 to Hradec Králové in the semi-finals. In total, the Hanáci won only two out of 14 league games in the spring.

“From the point of view of the ambitions, the announced goals and from the point of view of the start of the competition, which made us all hungry, we have to take it as a disappointment. I think that the end of autumn has already shown us that it will be difficult to achieve the goals we set for ourselves. In the end, it was confirmed. We failed to win the top six, or even try to win the European Cups through the middle group. Disappointment and sadness prevail,” said Saňák.

He saw the causes of the failure in the deteriorated defense. “We were getting more goals than in the fall. We didn’t manage to keep the matches going well, I’m mainly talking about the performance. We were not consistent throughout the match. The first conceded goal, for example, had a lot of impact on us. At the end of the season, we had a lot of injured players. The boys from B got a chance, which is perfectly fine, but we needed to be complete to fulfill our cup ambitions,” said the forty-six-year-old Saňák.

It was his first job as a head coach. “I think I can leave with my head held high. We are sorry that the sporting goals were not achieved. It’s a bit of a sad goodbye, but you have to move on and move on. Finally, I would like to thank all the people at the club, the management, the fans and all my colleagues for an amazing experience. I wish everyone much success,” added Saňák, who previously worked with Jílek in Prague’s Sparta.

Now, according to media speculation, he could take over Pardubice, whose bench Radoslav Kováč will end up on after the season.
