Chieti Football Club in Need of Training Field: Municipality Urged to Act

CHIETI. «We don’t have a field to train on. The municipality must solve the problem. I formally asked for the baseball field to be available.” Ettore Serra, owner of Chieti, launches an appeal to the institutions. The renovation work on Sant’Anna has not yet started and the neroverde club finds itself planning the next Serie D championship without a field to train on. «Two years have passed and the work on Sant’Anna hasn’t started yet», says Serra, «I’ve done my part: Chieti’s guarantee for the share is ready and I couldn’t do more than that. For us this is a strategic operation because without a pitch it is difficult to play football. I thank the administration for their availability, but it’s time they solved the problems.”
For Sant’Anna the sum available for the works is 700 thousand euros, of which 522 thousand obtained in 2022 thanks to the previous company led by Giulio Trevisan and Antonio Mergiotti with the Sport and suburbs tender. «There are no delays or defaults on the part of either the Municipality or Chieti», explains Sports Councilor Manuel Pantalone, «the construction site will start as soon as the government disburses 20% of the financing, 70% of which is the responsibility of the department Sport of the Presidency of the Council, while the remainder will be paid by Chieti”.
The problem remains because «the works, if all goes well, will start in September-October», continues Serra, «and therefore we will start another season without a pitch. It’s not just our problem, but also the City of Chieti’s and the women’s who won’t be able to use the facility. We need to find a solution for everyone. I spoke to the councilor and formally asked to have the baseball field.”
«The Municipality is not lacking», replies Pantalone, «we have two fields and a stadium, all functioning. Angelini is in good hands, those of Chieti, in which it will presumably remain until the European tender for multi-year management is defined. On Sant’Anna, as mentioned, we are awaiting the provision of 20% from the Government to start the works. For Celdit there is a manager, River, who is working to redo the surface. No one could have exclusive public spaces unless they directly own them.” The problem is that currently the Sant’Anna and Celdit pitches are worn out and unsuitable for Chieti training. «The other hypothesis is to look for a field outside the city», adds Pantalone, «and in this sense I can act as an intermediary with the neighboring administrations to have hospitality, but it is a commitment that I would make as a fan and not as a Municipality because, I repeat, we are deficient in nothing. Anyone who says otherwise is speculating. I remember that the old administration, without the collapse, kept Angelini closed for official matches and the team went to play outside the city.” On Serra’s request to have the baseball field, Pantalone does not close the doors: “We will analyze the project when it is presented to us.”
