Indonesian men’s singles Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo eliminated by Indonesian player Jason Gunawan in the round of 16 Malaysia Masters 2024 at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Thursday (23/5).
Chico lost to the Hong Kong representative in three games 6-21, 21-16, 10-21 in 52 minutes.
Chico was unexpectedly easy to beat by Jason, who has Indonesian blood from his father in the first game. Jason was even able to lead 11-1 during the first game interval.
Chico’s performance did not improve after the interval. As a result, Jason was able to win with a landslide score of 21-6 in the first game.
Chico came back in the second game. The badminton player from Papua gave Jason a tough fight.
Chico this time could take the lead at 8-6. After that, he was able to take a narrow lead of 11-10 entering the second game interval.
Jason had equalized when the score was 16-16. However, Chico was able to appear calm to close the second game with a score of 21-16.
Chico was unable to maintain this positive trend entering the deciding game. He seemed to have difficulty getting out of Jason’s domination of the game.
After only trailing 8-11 at the interval, Chico was no longer able to keep up with Jason, who won with a convincing score of 21-10 to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2024 Malaysia Masters.
