As part of the Basketball Tour 2024 event, the coaches of the Tana-City basketball section are undergoing refresher training for two days in Mahamasina.

The coaches clinic is one of the major programs of the Basketball Tour 2024, which has been taking place since May 1 in the capital. This is an initiative of the Athletes in Action association in collaboration with the Tana-city basketball section. The training provided by Canadian technicians offers a valuable opportunity to around a hundred Malagasy coaches from different clubs. The first day yesterday, led by Cheryl Jean-Paul, coach of the Spartans Women’s basketball at Trinity Western University, was particularly enriching. Indeed, La Canadienne shared her experiences at the Palais des Sports, highlighting the socio-emotional aspect of coaching and its importance. She covered topics new to the interns, such as decision-making and organization to prevent teams from stagnating. The progressive exploitation of skills was also discussed. “The enthusiasm of the participants demonstrates their desire to take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen basketball in Madagascar. I am really happy to have met them and to make my contribution to this sport around the world. I hope to find them at a higher level after this training”, the technician said. The training continues today with practice. Coach Matt Guynup will take care of it at Mahamasina. This second edition of the Basketball Tour is already a success. The youth camp on Saturday brought together more than 350 basketball players from the Tana-Ville section. The “quadru-team” meetings involving the major Malagasy teams and the Canadian Spartans contribute to the electrifying atmosphere of the event. The objective of this project is to promote the development of sport in Madagascar by teaching young people the Christian faith. “Our goal is to spread the gospel through sport, where young people get involved. To share with them that sport and faith are in perfect harmony and that beyond physical and mental preparation, the spiritual aspect should not be neglected in the quest for sporting and personal excellence. We want to train sports chaplains in Madagascar. Thus, we are open to all sports federations or associations which share the same opinion with us. added Corinne Robison, national coordinator of Athletes In Action.
