Chelsea FC needs a new head coach. The Blues surprisingly announce their separation from Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea FC and coach Mauricio Pochettino are surprisingly going their separate ways. As the London club announced in a brief statement, the decision was made “by mutual agreement”.

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we would like to thank Mauricio for his work this season. He is welcome back at Stamford Bridge at any time and we wish him all the best for his future coaching career,” sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley are quoted in the statement.

Pochettino also has his say: “I would like to thank the Chelsea ownership group and the sporting management for the opportunity to be part of the history of this football club. The club is now well placed to make further progress in the Premier League and Europe in the coming years.”
Chelsea also announced that they would not make any further comments until a new head coach has been appointed. The Italian Roberto De Zerbi (Brighton & Hove Albion) and the previous Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel, who led the Blues to a Champions League triumph in 2021, are among those being considered as successors on the island.

Chelsea FC: Six coaches in five years
Pochettino was the sixth coach in the last five years at the Londoners and only took over Chelsea last summer from interim manager Frank Lampard. His contract was valid until 2025 and included an option for a further year.
Chelsea had signed players for more than 450 million euros this season (transfer income: around 270 million), but only finished the season in sixth place in the Premier League – thanks to a final spurt with five wins on the last five matchdays.
