Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Parc Lescure: Yoann Gourcuff’s Heartwarming Gesture to Pierre Labat

Returning to Bordeaux last week to mark the 100th anniversary of Parc Lescure, Yoann Gourcuff took advantage of his visit to Gironde to pay a visit to Pierre Labat. A strong gesture that did not go unnoticed.

In terms of applause, only Zinedine Zidane and Alain Giresse did better. Returning to Chaban-Delmas for the 100th anniversary of Lescure, Yoann Gourcuff was entitled to a real ovation during the presentation of the two teams or during his exit. Although he only spent two years with the Girondins, the Breton midfielder enjoys a lot of love among Bordeaux supporters.

And the former Lyonnais scored points again after the match by going to greet Pierre Labat at his home, emblematic trainer of the Girondins, who remained at the club for more than 60 years and who notably saw Zinedine Zidane, Christophe Dugarry, Bixente Lizarazu pass through his hands but also Yoann Gourcuff. And if the latter, faithful to his habits, wanted to be discreet about this visit, “ Pierrot » took care to immortalize the moment on the canvas.

“A lot of emotion for me to see him running with a ball but also following the exchanges we had. His approach says a lot about our relationship that began in 2008 and about the man he is,” he wrote on his website, posting again on Facebook: “Thank you #YoannGourcuff for your visit yesterday, which touched me greatly. You and Karine found a moment for me, in such a short space of time. »

The same vision of football

Yoann Gourcuff has never stopped praising the Gironde trainer, with whom he remained in contact after his departure from Bordeaux. “ He is and has been an important support during my career. I had periods where I experienced things that I didn’t really understand, that I couldn’t understand, even after Bordeaux. He was always very supportive, and he helped me understand things better,” he confided to Girondins Analyse, in the spring of 2022. Above all, the two men had the same vision of football.

“We had a bit of the same approach, the same sensitivity to the fact that the player must control his ball, and to the technical aspect of football. We got closer naturally,” he explained, adding: “I needed to touch the ball a lot, to train a lot, to repeat the ranges, quite basic things: control, passing… I needed that to really be in harmony with the ball. Pierrot was completely into this approach, so we did sessions together from time to time. I needed, it’s true, to repeat my scales so that it was automatic. » And more than fifteen years later, the Morbihannais has forgotten nothing.
