[스포츠서울 | 김동영 기자] The 18th National Sports Festival for Disabled Students, a grand festival for Korea’s disabled sports dreamers, began with the opening ceremony at the Mokpo Indoor Gymnasium at 3:30 pm on the 14th.

The opening ceremony, with the theme of ‘Our dreams bloom in Jeonnam, the land of life!’, was attended by key figures including Jeong Jin-wan, president of the Korea Sports Association for the Disabled, Song Yun-seok, Sports Cooperation Officer of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, South Jeolla Province Governor Kim Young-rok, and Jeollanam-do Office of Education Superintendent Kim Dae-jung, as well as city and city officials. About 2,000 people, including provincial athletes and Jeollanam-do residents, attended.

This tournament, with the largest number of participants ever (3,828 players, 1,764 players, 2,064 executives and officials), will feature 17 sports (5 training sports – goalball, boccia, swimming, track and field, table tennis / 11 popular sports – basketball and disc golf) ·Volleyball, badminton, bowling, weightlifting, rowing, soccer, floorball, e-sports, sports run / 1 exhibition event, showdown) will be held. Shurun, which had been held as an exhibition event until the previous competition, was adopted as an official event for the first time in this competition. Among the 17 teams, the Gyeonggi Province team participated in the competition with the largest number of players, with a total of 529 players (253 players, 276 executives and officials).

The opening ceremony was held in the following order: entrance of athletes, national ceremony, opening declaration, welcome speech, hoisting of the competition flag, opening speech, and congratulatory speech. Jeollanam-do track and field athlete Kyeong-jeong Kim served as the athlete representative, and badminton referee Yoo Jae-in served as the referee representative, pledging to participate fairly in the competition.

On the 14th, the first day of the competition, competitions in 5 sports (boccia, swimming, weightlifting, track and field, and e-sports) were held, and 66 aspiring athletes won gold medals. The athlete who won the first gold medal in this competition was Kim Bo-min (17) from Chungcheongnam-do, who took first place with a record of 9m28 in the women’s discus throw F35-37 (brain lesion disorder, middle and high school student division) in the track and field field.

Kim Bo-min, who participated in the last competition for the first time and stood out by winning a gold medal in the same competition, broke his own record last year (8m87) and achieved his second consecutive victory. Kim Bo-min said, “I’ve been training about two to three times a week since school, and it’s really fun to exercise and learn things I don’t know,” and said, “My goal is to learn hard and be selected for the national team in the future.”
