“Les Archers de la Hire” was the first archery association in the Gers. Created in April 1973 on the initiative of Jean Dubos, first captain, Max Moulette and Henri Gardère were then president and treasurer and provided the archers section with the equipment necessary for its beginnings. Abel Abeille, mayor at the time, made the Argenté land developed by the first management team available to them.
Today, with Damien Laurier at its head, the association has nearly sixty members. He tries to revive the traditions of this discipline such as the “king’s shot” electing the best archer of the year. The archers train at Chemin de l’Argenté in Gauge but also indoors, with a target wall at Lycée Bossuet.
Some champions carried the colors of the Condom company high. We will particularly remember Marie-Andrée Veronesi winning the gold medal at the French championship in 1994.
The association is doing well both in terms of numbers, which have doubled since post-covid, and in terms of results. Last season’s record was 17 Gers champion titles, 7 vice-champion titles, 4 Occitanie champion titles and 4 vice-champion titles. A representation at the national level for the third consecutive year for Brice Bibaut is also to be honored.
This year, the Archers de la Hire obtained the Ambition Label and the Mixed, Citizen, Competition, Para-archery and prescription archery certifications. For the first time in the department, they will organize a stage of “Tir de Bouquet”, the biggest competition in France, on August 24 and 25.
