Casper Ruud Wins Geneva ATP 250 Title as Preparation for Roland-Garros

Eager to continue his preparation for Roland-Garros which begins Sunday (May 26-June 9) with a final tournament before heading to Porte d’Auteuil, Casper Ruud was full of confidence this Saturday by winning the 12th title of his career , the ATP 250 in Geneva, for the third time, after 2021 and 2022. He won in the final against Novak Djokovic’s scorer, the Czech Tomas Machac (44th in the world), in two sets (7-5, 6 -3).

Enough to strengthen his confidence a little more before the French Open, more uncertain than ever, where he can legitimately be part of the larger group of favorites, he the finalist of the last two editions, defeated (in 2022) by Rafael Nadal then (in 2023) by Novak Djokovic. The Norwegian will be able to count this year on the small form of the two giants and build on his very good start to the season on ocher (final in Monaco, title in Barcelona and title in Geneva, therefore).

11th title on clay

Note that the Norwegian won his 11th title on clay since the start of the 2020 season, which makes him the only player to have won more than 10 titles over this period on the surface, Carlos Alcaraz (7) being the second of this classification (Opta). He is also, a more local but also flattering statistic, the first player to win the Geneva tournament three times.

However, he had finished his semi-final the same morning, winning in three sets (1-6, 6-1, 7-6 [4]) against the Italian Flavio Cobolli (56th in the world). He will now turn to Roland-Garros where he will face the Brazilian Felipe Meligeni Alves, 136th in the world, in the first round.
