(Montreal) The Canadian recurve archery team caused a surprise at the World Cup in Yecheon, South Korea. The trio of Brandon Xuereb, Eric Peters and Reece Wilson-Poyton defeated the Italians, fifth in the world, 6-2 to win the bronze medal.

The Canadian team, which ranks 16th in the world, reached the podium after winning in four rounds on Thursday.
She won 6-2 against the Australians in the first round, then had the upper hand 5-3 against the Indians, who are ranked second in the world. A 6-0 victory against the Dutch allowed him to reach the final four. The Canadians faced the Germans in the semi-final and lost 6-2.
Germany and South Korea will shoot for gold on Sunday in the grand final.
Individually, Eric Peters, silver medalist at the last World Championships, obtained the best Canadian result with a 15th place. Brandon Xuereb, originally from Toronto and now residing in Quebec, ranked 49th.
On the women’s side, Virginie Chénier was stopped in qualifying and finished 65th after losing in the tiebreaker for the 64th and final place giving access to the elimination rounds. She will return to action this week in the mixed team event, alongside Eric Peters. The duo took 20th place in qualifying and will face the Vietnamese team in the first elimination round.
