Caen Basket Calvados is taking a serious option! By winning in the quarter-final first leg of the Nationale 1 playoffs in Tours, this Friday, May 10, 2024 (77-83), he opened the way to the semi-finals. The Caennais will have to beat Tours a second time, on the return Friday May 17, 2024, or in the open two days later, each time at the Palais des Sports, to get through this second round.

Caen confirmed its two previous outings against Le Havre by delivering an extremely solid match in Touraine. The Cébécistes spent most of the match in the lead, following an aggressive and successful start. Led by Yann Siegwarth (15 points), they dug a slight hole from the start (4-10, 4′), before the Touraine bench turned the tide. The 21 points of the local substitutes in the first quarter, against three on the Caen side, carried the TMB (27-21, 10′).

Caen often ahead

The Caennais reacted in the second quarter and Wendell Davis (16 points) gave his team the advantage with a winning shot. An 8-0 was there (29-31, 13′). After a few minutes of hesitation, Caen had resumed its march forward. Rolandas Jakstas, author of an excellent match after six lackluster performances or on the bench (20 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists), illustrated this. Perfect Njiba relayed it (29-37, 16′). Tours was only allowed twelve points in the second quarter: 39-42 at the break.

Despite the very good return to business of Pierre-Etienne Drouault (20 points, 4 assists), Caen had a short advantage thanks to significant skill (50% shooting success). The visitors’ good recovery extended the impression into the third quarter. With Mounir Bernaoui, the CBC reached a ten-point lead (41-51, 22′). But Scott Suggs and his comrades were far from having said their last word. The locals got back on track, taking advantage of a few early stages in Caen (58-59, 30′).

Decisive jakstas

The last quarter promised to be hot and it was… at least initially. Rigo Edzata allowed Tours to take the lead (62-61, 31′). The two teams were still neck and neck when Rolandas Jakstas decided to take matters into his own hands. The Lithuanian had cool blood in his veins and the last five minutes were going to be his mark. Imperturbable, he allowed Caen to lead the debates again (64-67, 35′), then take off (72-79, 39′).

The Caennais have afforded themselves the luxury of not trembling in money time. They only have one more victory to obtain to reach the semi-finals!
