Bundesliga, 32nd matchday: Hoffenheim equalizes against Leipzig shortly before the end

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim – RB Leipzig 1:1 (0:1)

RB Leipzig missed the provisional jump to third place in the men’s Bundesliga. At the start of the 32nd match day, the Saxons conceded a late equalizer to make it 1-1 (0-1) at TSG Hoffenheim.

“It’s a shame if the goal comes so late. We couldn’t free ourselves either. It’s a deserved draw, we retain the chance of third place,” said RB sports director Rouven Schröder at DAZN. “We’re still in the flow. I’m not worried at all.”

With now 63 points, Leipzig are one point behind VfB Stuttgart, who are hosting second-placed Bayern Munich on Saturday. Benjamin Šeško scored the opening goal for the guests in the 38th minute. Leipzig’s Xavi Simons had to leave the field with a yellow-red card after a foul on Anton Stach in the 72nd minute. For Hoffenheim, who are still hoping for the European Cup, Andrej Kramarić saved at least a point in the 90th minute.

Shortly after the start of the game, Leipzig had a great opportunity to take the lead. After an opening pass from Dani Olmo, Xavi Simons ran towards the Hoffenheim goal alone, but TSG goalkeeper Oliver Baumann held the ball. In a lively exchange of blows, the home team made their first offensive signal after 20 minutes. RB keeper Péter Gulácsi parried Kramarić’s shot. Fifteen minutes later this scenario repeated itself.

TSG is currently in seventh place with 40 points, five points behind sixth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt. Hoffenheim took advantage of their numerical superiority late in the game to draw, but that might not be enough in the fight for an international starting place.
