BSC Big Mat Makes Major Acquisition Ahead of Grosseto Derby in Serie A Baseball

GROSSETO. A new purchase from BSC Big Mat lights up the eve of the Grosseto derby of the Serie A baseball which will be staged tomorrow evening (at 8pm), Saturday (at 3pm and 8pm) at the Roberto Jannella stadium.

Since yesterday afternoon the manager Stefano Cappuccini can count on the performance of Ericson Leonora, who decided to return to the team that welcomed him in the 2022 season. The Venezuelan winger, born in 1992, with a Dutch passport, kept the president’s club on tenterhooks for a few weeks Massimo Ceciarini, as he was undecided whether to come to Maremma or accept an offer in his country. In the end, however, he chose to strengthen a red and white line-up which in the first four days of the championship proved to be a little short, also due to the departure of Dariel Rodriguez, not at his best physically and sold to Cagliari.

«Leonora, whom we welcome with the utmost satisfaction – specifies the sports director Roberto Piccioli – is not going to take the place of the Cuban-born receiver. We are still on the market for that role: in fact we have two or three names of players who could give us a hand behind home plate in the coming weeks. In recent weeks the team has been truly extraordinary on the mound, as demonstrated by the paltry four points conceded in Parma, but they have also been a bit light in attack. The arrival of an expert bat can certainly be of help and stimulus for our young players and help them continue the improvement that we have noticed since the second match against San Marino at the Jannella”.

In 2023 Ericson Leonora, who can play indifferently in all of his outfield departments, reached the championship final with San Marino, finishing with a batting average of 336.6 home runs and 8 runs batted in. However, his best year in Italy was 2022, in which he stood out with the BSC Grosseto shirt with an extraordinary 402 average in the batter’s box. In our championship, including two years in UnipolSai Bologna (in 2019 and 2021), he boasts a batting average of 374, with 23 home runs and 103 runs batted in. In his career he played eight seasons in the American Minors (overall 463 matches played and 434 valid at-bats), with the New York Yankees jersey, three of which were in advanced single A; and another eight in the Venezuelan Professional League with Lara, Zulia, Caracas.
