Breaking Barriers Through Sport: The Provincial Festival of School Sports in Foggia

Running competitions, table football, badminton, table tennis, shot put and discus throws: a true celebration of sport experienced by disabled and non-disabled children and young people, without distinction, along and around the athletics track of the University Sports Center of Foggia . The provincial festival of school sports without barriers, which concluded the regional project “School, Sport and Disability”, was an explosion of colors and desire to be together between teachers, students and tutors who animated the 2023 school year -2024 the activities developed by the Department of Sport for All of the Puglia Region, the Italian Paralympic Committee of Puglia and the Regional School Office.

“This experience teaches everyone, especially adults, the enormous value of integration and the physical-psychological benefits generated by physical activity and sports practiced all together” said the vice-president of the Puglia Region and councilor for Sport for All, present at the event together with the president of CIP Puglia, the CIP school contact, the Sport contact of the Regional School Office and the Sports councilor of the Municipality of Foggia.

Through the USR, the vice-president of the Region thanked the entire school community for their collaboration, “essential for the full involvement of young athletes and their families who, thus, will be encouraged to push more and more so that sports practice becomes part fundamental part of their kids’ days.”

In the province of Foggia alone, 48 schools were involved: 21 first level and 27 second level.
