Atlanta Braves star outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. left Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to injury. The Braves, however, won 8-1.
Acuna attempted to steal the third cushion when he fell in the first inning. The 26-year-old received help from his teammates to leave the field and was holding his knee.
Journalist Mark Bowman from MLB.com, indicated that this injury is a sprain to his left knee and that he will receive evaluations in the coming days. Details will be revealed Sunday evening.
During training camp in March, the Venezuelan missed a few weeks of activity due to a knee injury. He also suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in 2021.
The reigning National League MVP has a .246 batting average and 16 stolen bases in 48 games this season.
Jarred Kelenic came in relief for Acuna and had three hits in four at-bats. Matt Olson and Adam Duvall both stretched their arms solo in the eighth inning for their eighth and fourth home runs of the season.
Starter Chris Sale had a good outing for the Braves. In seven innings of work, the 35-year-old veteran recorded eight strikeouts and allowed four hits.
