At the end of the season there was some good news for Bundesliga basketball team BG Göttingen late on Tuesday afternoon.

Göttingen/Cologne – The Violets received the news from Basketball-Bundesliga GmbH that they would receive a license for their 16th season in the first league – in contrast to last year, even without any conditions.

“I’m happy that we can play in the BBL next season,” said BG managing director Frank Meinertshagen. “We not only qualified in sport, but also in all other areas – and this year without any conditions. This shows that everyone, from the shareholders to the mini-jobbers, is passionate about it. It wasn’t an easy season, especially because of the international games. It was also a much greater burden for the shareholders.”

A total of 24 license applications were examined, including from six second division teams. “The licensing process has developed excellently over the years. The clubs work meticulously and submit excellently prepared applications so that the expert and license league committee can examine and evaluate them quickly,” said Dr. Thomas Braumann, Chairman of the BBL License League Committee. For the first time this season, in addition to sporting and economic criteria, sustainability criteria were also included in the licensing process.

The following BBL clubs receive the license without any conditions or subsequent conditions: Alba Berlin, Basketball Löwen Braunschweig, BG Göttingen, Bamberg Baskets, EWE Baskets Oldenburg, FC Bayern Munich Basketball, MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, MLP Academics Heidelberg, Niners Chemnitz, Syntanics MBC, Rasta Vechta, ratiopharm Ulm, Rostock Seawolves, Telekom Baskets Bonn, Veolia Towers Hamburg, Würzburg Baskets.

    Humorous auction

The Violets and around 150 fans were once again in a good mood yesterday early in the evening in the Göttingen cult bar “Monro’s Park” at the obligatory end-of-season event. The last two defeats against the MBC and in Hamburg were over and the foreign players were already thinking about returning to their homeland. After the last team dinner on Wednesday, most of them will scatter to the four winds again. Before that, however, there was the annual jersey auction, the proceeds of which go to the BG youth team.

In the usual humorous atmosphere, the jerseys of the Veilchen players were auctioned off among the BG supporters. Captain Mathis Mönninghoff’s jersey was the first to go for 150 euros. On his side, Osaro Rich had the fans laughing: “Since Rich is already on the back of the jersey, we’ll start the auction with 100 euros” – loud laughter for the likeable Lübeck native. His jersey cost 220 euros. The biggest applause went to young professional Janis Jünemann (160 euros). Fedor Zugic bought the jersey from his teammate Peter Hemschemeier. A total of 2,160 euros were raised from the player jerseys for the BG youngsters.

Less nice: BG boss Meinertshagen explained why (former) player Harper Kamp was missing recently: One of his children is sick. (haz/gsd-nh, wg-gsd)
